From the notebook of Senior Special Agent Steve Anderson

There are some days you just want to forget, yet they stay burned in your consciousness like they were stamped there with a red hot branding iron.  I just removed AD Schecter’s shoe from my ass – actually, I guess I am lucky it was just the one shoe.  The other is buried up ASAC Waller’s fundament.  The blame game has started already – our wonderful bureaucracy in full accountability mode.  Why?  We lost Locke.  There, I said it, pure and simple.  We lost him.  I saw Schecter’s face light up when I told him it was NCIS Agent Martikian who was actually in the vehicle with him, when it somehow got blown off the road, had the roof ripped off and right in front of three seasoned law enforcement agents and two Paramedics managed to just disappear into the early morning haze without a trace, in the middle of a sandstorm. I saw Agent Chance’s face when we pulled up to the scene.  She was pissed I didn’t listen to her.  Hell, I’m pissed I didn’t listen to her.  Just she didn’t make a lot of sense even though the old spidey sense was ticking.  There are legal issues like the primacy of crime scenes and suspect rights to take into account.  I can’t believe I just wrote that down – too long in management.  Maybe I’ll listen more closely now I know there may be more to her than meets the eye, unless of course she’s as loopy as a loon.  Jury’s still out on that one, even for her.   Maybe I was jazzed from having that squirrel put a shotgun in my face until Pierce and Lansdell got him down with the help of a 10mm bullet to Locke’s right leg.  That and the sweet faced bitch from Homeland Security showing up and pissing attitude all over the op just as we were ready to go.  Turns out she has a history and Schecter sure didn’t want to talk about her – course these are the guys that put suspects on CIA planes for ‘extraordinary rendition’ – loosely translated as being sent to a torture camp in some god forsaken land where your public defender ain’t never gonna find your ass.  On that basis, I can’t say I blame him. Anyway, we at least have some connections between our victims so there is a pattern.  So far we have at least 4 tacit connections to US Marines that served together in Iraq.  All part of the Three Deuce Five – the Cold Steel Warriors.  How they connect to Locke, we’ve yet to know.  I never saw a man so scared of dry land – he was sane enough not to blow my shit away but to see a grown man, a Marine even, so gripped by fear.  Well it doesn’t do to dwell on such things.  Martikian’s checking military channels while Chance and the rest of the team are hunting online for leads.  Locke had a book sent to him by Amazon – a tome on the Myths and Legends of Egypt.  It’s pretty lightweight but Pierce and Chance have been digging deeper into the source material.  We got a hit – something about a period of Egyptian history in 4000 BC when the land fell under the influence of a Black Pharoh.  He had an army of 1,000 Djinns at his command – a Dark Wind that scoured all before it.  Chance has shown me some of the accounts translated from the Arabic – it sounds eerily familiar to the crime scenes over the past few weeks. If whatever we’re hunting stays true to the pattern, we’ll have more bodies on our hands tomorrow.  Jesus…I need a drink.
